PBA has been at the forefront of the research, planning and delivery of projects that promote waterborne freight transport for over 10 years.
Our team assesses the practicality, feasibility, and economics of moving all forms of freight sustainably over river and canal networks. We are regularly called upon to provide advice to developers, contractors and planning authorities seeking to promote or assess the movement of construction materials to and from development sites by water. Our work extends to assessing the viability of moving materials to and from waste and recycling facilities, power stations and the funding and business case for major waterways infrastructure.
We are industry leaders in the promotion of water freight. PBA is a member of the Freight by Water group within the Freight Transport Association (FTA) and we are currently working with the Canal and River Trust and Transport for London to support the development of their water freight information portal. We recently edited and produced the FTA’s guidance ‘Making use of water freight: A guide for shippers’.
