PBA economists have been supporting Sutton Harbour Holdings with estimating the value of its current activities and in identifying the wider economic benefits that could accrue for the city of Plymouth from the delivery of its vision for the regeneration of its historic harbour.
Following on from this, PBA was commissioned to develop economic benefits and planning statements in support of a planning application for the Boardwalk project – a scheme aimed at providing retail and restaurant space on a boardwalk over the water, adjacent to the Barbican Conservation Area. In determining the application, the City Council deemed that any harm to heritage assets was less than substantial and outweighed by the wider public benefits that the scheme will deliver.
More recently, Sutton Harbour Holdings commissioned PBA to assess the economic value of Plymouth Fisheries, Sutton Harbour Marina and maritime-based events to the city of Plymouth. The study was informed by numerous interviews and surveys with businesses based around the harbour and the results were widely publicised in the local press and a business conference.
