PBA has been involved with Green Park at Junction 11 of the M4 since the early 1980s providing engineering and hydrological advice that has seen low-grade agricultural fields develop into one of the foremost business parks in the UK. An innovative approach to drainage has created a biodiversity rich landscape, dominated by Longwater Lake with its fringing reedbeds, which forms the framework for a thriving business park.
PBA’s Ecology team has worked closely with the Park’s owners, Mapletree to enhance biodiversity value and promote enjoyment of the Park by business users and the local community. This approach has contributed to the delivery of Mapletree’s sustainability aspirations - improving the quality and value of their property offering.
These achievements have been acknowledged by two important awards. In June 2015 the Ecology team guided a submission that saw the owners of the Park successfully secure the Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management’s Award for Corporate Achievement 2015. Six months later, following a rigorous audit of ecological management and monitoring systems developed with the guidance of PBA’s Ecology team, Green Park was awarded the Wildlife Trust’s Biodiversity Benchmark – making it the only business park in the UK to hold such an accolade. The Biodiversity Benchmark Accreditation has been successfully retained since then and our work at the Park supporting the implementation of the Biodiversity Management System continues.
