Farmcare own and operate the 1800ha Down Ampney Estate in the Cotswolds and are looking to maximise the value of the landholding through sustainable redevelopment of a number of sites, whilst at the same time restoring listed buildings that have fallen into disrepair.
PBA has undertaken a suite of integrated ecological and landscape studies at four sites to date. The information gathered ensured options were explored having regard to the setting of the buildings and their use by protected species, including roosting bats and barn owl, helping to ensure compliance with wildlife legislation and planning policy, whilst meeting Farmcare’s aspirations for each site.
This cross-disciplinary approach was subsequently extended to encompass other planning and technical disciplines. This ensured landscape, ecological and hydrological considerations jointly defined design requirements, informed the proposals and reduced design iterations. Farmcare are now placed to provide much needed on-site accommodation for farm workers and improved efficiency of farming operations.
