PBA has provided transport planning advice to support the extension of University College Birmingham’s Charlotte Street Campus in Birmingham city centre.
University College Birmingham provides vocational courses to over 8,000 students across a number of sites in Birmingham City Centre including at the Charlotte Street Campus. Phase 2 of the campus is included as part of £100 million of investment into facilities improvements which could see student numbers increase to over 10,000.
PBA’s work included the preparation of a Transport Statement for the Phase 2 development as well as a review of servicing and access arrangements. PBA also advised on alterations to on-street parking and traffic regulation orders in the vicinity of the development to enable the construction of a new access from George Street.
PBA liaised with Birmingham City Council and the multidisciplinary project team throughout the process to ascertain the impact of the proposed multi-storey car park in terms of trip impact on the local road network. PBA also advised the project team on the likely timescales and requirements for permits and licences for activity on the highway to inform the construction programme.
The planning application for the Phase 2 development at the Charlotte Street campus was submitted to Birmingham City Council in February 2017 with completion of the development anticipated in 2019.
