Planning Awards 2019 - Shortlisted for Mixed use development and Best use of Brownfield land in placemaking
PBA was instrumental in helping our client secure planning consent for the 575-hectare mixed-use Enterprise Zone development on an old airfield site, Alconbury Weald, with Highways England describing the extent of the pre-application consultation and liaison by PBA as ‘exemplary’. PBA also contributed to the successful execution of Urban & Civic’s residential development – key phase 1.
The development will provide 5,000 new homes, as well as 290,000 m² of employment space, educational facilities and accompanying public realm, and further community facilities.

Part of PBA’s role has been to provide detailed design of causeway retaining walls located in a prominent position within the public realm of the development. The team also had responsibility for designing two pond platforms either side of the intersecting walls. The intended use of the platforms is to offer future residents the community break out space and an educational destination for nearby schools.
The pond platforms and causeway retaining walls were delivered before the pre-set deadline which meant all structures were completed on the site’s launch day. As all the structures offer a focal point to the development’s entrance, it was important that all the structures were finalised before potential homebuyers entered the site for property viewings which added to the client’s satisfaction.
