PBA was appointed to deliver structural, civil and traffic engineering services for the comprehensive refurbishment of 9 Greyfriars Road, Reading (38,417 ft²).
9 Greyfriars Road is a striking office building laid out over four floors. It is located in the heart of Reading town centre, three minutes’ walk from Reading railway station, which has recently undergone an £800m redevelopment.
Archive records of the construction of the original building could not be uncovered from any archives. However, through prudent opening up of the original building, and through previous experience, PBA was able to establish details of original construction, including the heavy external cladding, and were able to best advise the team on what could and couldn’t be altered.
Through our close relationship with Reading Highways, PBA was able to liaise with them and agree amendments to the surrounding public pavements that were acceptable to the council yet met our clients’ aspirations.
“Peter Brett’s invaluable expertise, experience and close relationships with the key stakeholders enabled the team to clearly determine what could and couldn’t be altered in one of Reading's most high profile commercial refurbishment projects and delivered solutions which exceeded our expectations.”
