Supporting communities with Homes England in Colyton, Devon

10 September 2019

Devon – Plans for the redevelopment of the former CeramTec factory in Colyton have been approved by East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee. The news has been welcomed by Homes England and by PBA, now part of Stantec, and LHC Design who supported Homes England with the application.

The Committee, which met on Tuesday 3 September, have granted permission for the application which includes for the demolition of circa 80,000 sq ft of derelict buildings and the subsequent delivery of up to 72 high quality new homes (20% affordable housing), up to 1,000 square metres of employment space and new open space.

The CeramTec factory in Colyton closed four years ago. Homes England, the government’s housing accelerator, purchased the site in 2017 and has been progressing a scheme to redevelop the site and create multiple benefits for the local community, including affordable homes, employment space and public open space.

Commenting on the announcement, Mary Crew, PBA Associate, said:

“We’re thrilled with the result. This presents a great opportunity for Colyton and will bring much needed new homes, including affordable housing, to the community. We’re also pleased to have helped Homes England secure another positive outcome in the work they are doing to help more people in England access better homes in the right places.”

Sam Gammon, Homes England, commented:

“We’re very pleased to have received unanimous support to our residential-led planning application from East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee. Our application will deliver up to 72 much needed homes, employment space and new public open space at the derelict former CeramTec Factory site in Colyton. In addition to this, our proposal includes for 20% affordable housing, a commitment that exceeds policy requirements at the site and which will assist in meeting affordable housing need in Colyton. We look forward to working with our partners to redevelop this fantastic site.”

PBA has worked with Homes England on several local schemes in recent years and delivered substantive consultation, negotiation and technical work to inform the outline application for the site in Colyton.
