Lewisham Gateway in south-east London has being innovatively remodelled to address transport challenges and create a valuable site, with a million square feet of mixed-use development.
PBA has provided a broad range of solutions to create a better environment for residents, laying the foundation for future economic and social improvement through housing and retail opportunities.
Our environmental planners managed a pragmatic scoping process to ensure a focused EIA, and designed interdisciplinary solutions to manage risks while enhancing the development, such as river works that managed flood risk, delivered ecological enhancement and provided an attractive setting for a new area of open space.
With a major roundabout removed to create direct pedestrian access between the town centre, residential areas and public transport, the site has been transformed with new public spaces and a riverside park.
"PBA has brought a touch of genius to some of our large and complex regeneration schemes. To highlight one in South East London, their involvement from inception of the master plan has been so beneficial. Unlocking a host of seemingly insurmountable issues involving moving two rivers and removing a complex highway gyratory has enabled the creation of a development plot that previously didn’t exist.
Buildings are now being constructed on that land plot to extend a town centre. It has taken the coordinated work of several specialist teams within the PBA national team to achieve that. My grateful thanks to them."
