PBA was commissioned to coordinate the delivery of infrastructure for this new retail site, providing 40,000sqft of retail floor space and car parking, throughout the planning, design and construction stages.
PBA worked on the project from 2010 providing acoustics, infrastructure and environmental services. Successful assessment of the store noise impacts, along with surrounding background levels, allowed PBA to successfully attenuate noise break out from the development and gain permission.
We worked closely with the highways authority, drainage authorities and utility companies, and carried out inspection of the engineering elements during delivery for the contractor, Bowmer and Kirkland.
The store opened in November 2015 following a 26-week build programme, and in time for the Christmas shopping season. The new retail site is set within a wider development context covering nine hectares of greenfield land that includes 67 new housing units, 62 supported living units and a planned future park and ride service.
Each site is separated by existing infrastructure including the Ashford to Maidstone railway line, and Fougeres Way. Major off-site infrastructure improvements, completed before the start of the development, included highway and utility provision to serve these wider aspirations. Utility, surface water and pumping station capacities were designed to meet future needs and the phasing demands from each operator.
