PBA was appointed to project manage and provide civil and structural engineering support for the complete overhaul and reinstatement of a 40-year old 12.5MW steam turbine-alternator set.
The project involved structural repairs to the turbine support structure, the manufacture of new blades, repairs to the rotor and casing, and complete replacement of the manual control systems.
The work was completed to programme and budget. PBA was instrumental in carrying out feasibility studies looking at replacement versus refurbishment options to ensure minimum downtime during winter 2009/10. PBA was commissioned again in 2013 to overview and sign-off the installation of a new replacement 2.5MW house set turbine manufactured in India.
