GLASGOW – Stefano Smith, Director of Planning with Peter Brett Associates (PBA), has been elected to Fellowship of the Royal Town Planning Institute (FRTPI).
Chartered Fellowship is the RTPI's highest membership class and was awarded to Stefano for his outstanding contribution to planning. He is one of only approximately 100 Fellows of the institute, which has 23,000 planning professionals working around the world in the public, private, charitable and education sectors.
Trustees of the institute agreed that Stefano has strongly demonstrated a major contribution to the profession in terms of leadership, innovation, and support to others in the profession through his many voluntary roles with the RTPI. He has demonstrated ‘leadership’ through his consultancy roles at PBA and other leading national and international multidisciplinary consultancies as well as acting as the RTPI’s voice in his role as Scotland Convenor 2017.
Commenting on his Fellowship, Stefano said:
“I am delighted and honoured to have been elected; it is especially meaningful as it shows my peers recognise and value the contribution I have made to planning. I will endeavour to represent our industry through this privileged role with passion and integrity, continuing to promote the values of our profession and all RTPI members to further the science and art of planning.
I strongly believe in the need for different ‘sectors’ of planners to work together and the need for ‘mutual’ respect for different professions and roles. I will work towards achieving these goals while helping to shape public perception and create great sustainable places and communities in this ‘New Urban Agenda’.”
Stefano is Director of Planning for PBA in Scotland, a position he has held since 2015. During this time, he has helped developed the profile of PBA planning services in Scotland.
