BIRMINGHAM – PBA has now achieved formal completion of the off-site highway works for the Paradise development in Birmingham.
The £700 million Paradise development is transforming seventeen acres of city centre land, with the creation of new civic, retail, leisure and hotel facilities, public transport and public realm space, all contributing to the city's impressive growth.
PBA has been involved in the project from an early scoping phase, redesigning the highway layout and outlining modifications to the existing structures. Our work included rethinking traditional traffic movements and assessing the impact of a radical new road layout within a very busy network. As well as maximising the site and making more efficient use of the existing highway network, the PBA scheme creates new pedestrian routes which connect different parts of the city.
Nearly three years to the day on which all parties signed the construction contract, the Hand Over Certificate and Completion Certificate were signed. Olaf Bierfreund, PBA Senior Associate and project lead, commented:
“This is a significant moment for PBA and for Paradise. We’re incredibly proud of our involvement in the project and of the work we’ve done to secure its future. Reaching this milestone stands for so much more than the completion of the highway works, it represents the great teamwork and innovation that has been evident across the entire Paradise development.”
Commenting on PBA’s involvement in the project, Rob Groves from Argent said:
“PBA has done a fantastic job and there is no doubt in my mind that its team has been key in bringing this incredibly complex project to fruition.”
While the highway works to support the redevelopment of the Paradise site are now complete, PBA will have ongoing involvement in the development and will continue to advise Argent on future highway works.
